Top 300 Movies Of All Time: #251 "SHANE" (1953)

What is there to say about this George Stevens film classic? It's an aesthetic masterpiece. Alan Ladd was never better, both as an actor and a star. Jean Arthur, a fantastically underrated and gifted actress in her own right adds an even temper.

Van Heflin gives a very good, understated performance who has mixed feelings about Alan Ladd and his influence. Jack Palance is terrifically evil. Then there's Brandon De Wilde as the young son and the oh so memorable ending. Tragically his life would end prematurely twenty years later as he was fully realizing his skills as an actor. But there will always be "Shane".
