Top 300 Movies of All Time: #258 Baby Doll (1956)

The Academy is going to honor Eli Wallach with a Lifetime Achievement Award. It's about time. His performance in Elia Kazan's "Baby Doll" is worth it all by itself. Elia Kazan as was typical made a movie that then and now is unique in its peeling back the layers of his characters.

Eli Wallach plays a hispanic farmer, a successful farmer at that. Karl Malden is the jealous man married to Carroll Baker, who plays the title character "Baby Doll". Malden's wrath leads to Eli's seduction of Baker. Deftly handled, brilliantly acted character study.
