Thank God for Christopher Nolan. "Batman Begins" conclusively exorcised the Joel Schumacher era from the proud history of the Dark Knight.
Christian Bale was inspired casting, even if Katie Holmes was not. Include Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine,Gary Oldman,Tom Wilkinson and Ken Watanabe and you've got one great film true to its characters. Caine is perfect as a worldly Alfred, Freeman ideal as the wise Mr. Fox and Gary Odman is every bit the role of Gordon. Ken Watanabe has a nice role too
It is Liam Neeson, however that provides an effective villain bent on destroying Gotham, after having trained the Young Mr Wayne everything he knows. This film works on many levels and thankfully restored an iconic piece of Americana to its proper literary context.
