TOP 300 MOVIES OF ALL TIME: #234 " M*A*S*H* " (1970)

The success of the television show has sadly obscured the great film that spawned its idiot box spin off. It was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar in 1970, but lost out to "Patton".

This film is just a whole lot of adult fun, the greatest service comedy ever made. It put Robert Altman on the map as a director depicting, doctors, nurses and orderlies in a mobile hospital during the Korean War.

Ultimately, most of this cast went on to great careers themselves. It launched many. Donald Sutherland as "Hawkeye". Elliott Gould as "Trapper John". And yes that's Robert Duvall just two years before his turn in "The Godfather".

Also included Tom Skerritt,Sally Kellerman,Fred Williamson and Gary Burghoff as "Radar", the only cast member to reprise the role on TV. Also there's an early role for Rene Auberjonois.

Great movie all around.
