TOP 300 MOVIES OF ALL TIME: #220 "Romeo and Juliet" (1968)

Franco Zeffirelli did something unique in casting 1968's "Romeo and Juliet", the epic Shakespearean tale of teenage love tragically defiled by irrational hatred and family vendettas. He cast teenagers to play the leads. In previous incarnations, notably in 1936, Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer while being great thespians were nonetheless quite a bit older than desired.

Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey are forever immortalized as the fated lovers. The rest simply need not be detailed. If you don't know the story, well take the time to watch this, the best film version. There is a great many notable supporting performances but Milo O'Shea and Michael York standout.More can be gleaned at IMDB
